Understanding Scanner Verification

Updated over a month ago

Tendy’s Scanner Verification feature allows merchants to specify which products require mandatory scanning at checkout. This ensures greater accuracy as we go beyond basic SKU matching by validating product LOT numbers at the time of a customer purchase. With Tendy’s Scanner Verification, you have greater security, product lot accuracy and customer peace of mind.

Enabling Scanner Verification

By default, Tendy’s Scanner Verification is toggled of so to use it, you can enable it in your Tendy merchant admin panel; which is found under LOCATIONS in the left navigation bar (1), then then the DEVICES subcategory (2). From there, tap on the SCANNER tab (3). You can then toggle the “Require Verification” switch from OFF to ON.

Product Exemption List

Once Scanner Verification is enabled, you can now specify which products can be exempt from a mandatory scan at checkout:

Tapping on the SELECT button will allow you to tick either an entire product category, or individual products within that product category, to be exempt and not require a checkout scan:

A brand dropdown menu and search bar on this Exempt Items window allows you to easily locate specific products.

After specifying your products that are exempt from forced-checkout scanning, tap on the CONFIRM button.

How it works

With Scanner Verification now enabled, simply scan a customer’s products at checkout. If products were added to the customer’s basket through the app, you can also collect and process payment but when you try to mark the order as ready, you’ll receive a popup message indicating that there are non-exempt items in the order that must be scanned:

On this popup screen, you can tap on the SCAN ITEMS button and proceed with scanning the items in order to mark the order as ready, or have a manager approve the option to forego scanning. Please note that if you select the latter, a manager will be required to enter their PIN number to approve the bypass request. NOTE: If you are a manager and currently logged in, you do not need to validate with your PIN.

Changing Product Lot Numbers

IMPORTANT: When adding products to a basket, the applicable Lot number will be displayed for the product in the checkout summary window. Scanner verification will ensure that the actual product has the corresponding Lot number after you have scanned the product however, if you were to change the product’s lot number in the checkout summary window, you’ll be required to scan the product again, before you are able to mark the order as ready.

This is to ensure that the product with the proper lot number is taken from your inventory.
