Need help understanding product barcodes? We've got you covered! Cannabis product barcodes, standardized by GS1 Canada, require all master case packs, inner case packs and retail product packs to have the following:
Each of these formats must have a unique barcode
Each size variant of each product must have a unique barcode. This means that a strain of cannabis that is available in four sizes (i.e. 1 g, 3.5 g, 7 g, 14 g) and therefore will have a minimum of 4 unique product barcodes.
With the above second point, two products of the same size may also have different barcodes. This is where Lot Numbers come into play. This is probably consistent per Purchase Order, but as a merchant, the lot numbers may have changed between product orders so if you have not sold through your previous lot so it's important to add the new lot to your Tendy product catalog so that our system knows which Lot Number variant product that you're scanning.
The barcode shown above is a lot-tracked barcode; which lists the following information:
GTIN
Date
Lot Number
When inputting this information into your Tendy product catalog, it's very important that you exclude any numbers shown in parentheses (example: (01) in GTIN, (17) in Expiry Date, (10) in Lot Number.
For accessories, OCS gives suppliers two options with barcodes:
You can use the standardized formats outlined by GS1
or
Keep their existing barcodes as long as they are legitimate, functional and non-conflicting with any other sellable item(s) globally.
If the barcode is conflicting or illegitimate, the product will not be listed.
